India’s name shone for the first time in javelin throw
India’s performance in the javelin event of the Asian Games 2023 was significant. Three players performed brilliantly and won gold and silver medals. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a season’s best throw of 88.88m. Kishore Jena finished second with a throw of 87.54 meters and won the silver. However, this was his best performance. India’s performance in this category was outstanding not only in the men’s category but also in the women’s category. Annu Rani created history in the women’s javelin event. Annu shocked everyone by winning gold. He threw the javelin 62.92m in his fourth attempt, a season’s best. This feat is achieved for the first time by anyone in India. Even the daughter of a farmer in Meerut did not feel like practicing. He sharpened the cane and practiced throwing it across the field. Bhai Upendra says that Annu didn’t even have shoes. He collected money from donations and bought shoes with which he practiced. Then made history in javelin throw.
