The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday released the latest player rankings, which saw a major change. Pakistan’s Babar Azam has once again become the number one ODI batsman. He has reached the top by beating India’s star opener Shubman Gill. Babar has 824 rating points. Whereas, Gill has slipped to the second position with 810 marks. Virat Kohli (775) is third and Rohit Sharma (775) is fourth. These three Indian players have not played a single ODI since the World Cup 2023 that ended last month.
Let us tell you that Gill overtook Babar and achieved the top spot during the World Cup. Team India is currently playing a three-match ODI series in South Africa but Gill, Kohli and Rohit are not part of the squad. South Africa’s Rasi van der Dusen (down one place to eighth) and Henrik Klaassen (down one place to 10th) have suffered losses. Ireland’s Harry Tector has moved up one place to seventh in the ODI batsmen rankings.
At the same time, if we talk about the ranking of T20 international bowlers, the reign has been taken away from Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi. England’s Adil Rashid has now jumped three places to reach the top spot. He has 715 marks. Rashid took 6 wickets in the T20 series against West Indies. Bishnoi has lost two places. He has moved to the third position with 685 points. After becoming the number one bowler, he has not played a single match. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan (692) remains at the second position. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasranga (679) is fourth and Mahesh Thikeshana (670) is fifth.
In the ranking of the shortest format batsmen Suryakumar Yadav (887) is at the top. Surya scored a storming century in the third T20I against South Africa. Pakistan’s veteran wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan (787) is second and South Africa’s Aden Markram (755) is third. After Australia’s emphatic win against Pakistan in Perth, the Test rankings have seen some changes. Australian opener Usman Khawaja (up three places to fourth) has overtaken Babar. Babar is at number five. David Warner (up nine places to 27th) and Mitchell Marsh (up 12 places) have also gained. Kane Williamson is on top.
