US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet in San Francisco on Wednesday ahead of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum summit. This meeting is being considered very important to end the ongoing differences between the two. The leaders of the world’s two largest economies have known each other for more than a decade. And even after Biden inaugurated the conference in January 2021, the two leaders have met each other several times.

However, this has happened only once during these meetings when the two leaders have met face to face. And Xi Jinping has not even been to America since 2017. His last visit was during the time of President Trump.

The White House says the summit, to be held at an undisclosed location in San Francisco, aims to promote dialogue to prevent heightened animosity from escalating into conflict. The meeting is expected to discuss global issues ranging from conflicts in the Middle East to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, North Korea’s relationship with Russia, Taiwan, human rights, AI as well as “fair” trade and economic relations.
Which deal can be approved?
The White House says Washington is looking for concrete results and hopes to see progress in restoring military-to-military ties with China and fighting the trade in the powerful synthetic opioid drug fentanyl. Its use has become a crisis in the United States. Any deal on fentanyl would mean Washington would have to lift human rights restrictions on China’s police forensic institute in return.
Biden said on Tuesday that his goal would be to resume normal communications with China, including military-to-military contacts. With Taiwan holding elections in early 2024, political analysts expect China to seek assurances from the US that it will do nothing to encourage pro-independence elements, while Xi Jinping urges Biden to ease tariffs and export controls. They will also hope. Convincing China to send the most advanced semiconductors to China. At a separate dinner with business leaders, the Chinese president will also consider promoting investment in China by American companies.
