Indian Railways has always been the backbone of the Indian economy as well as the Government of India. The network of Indian railways is so strong that it connects the states with each other. This is the main reason why railway jobs, along with job security, are among the most sought after jobs in India.
First of all let us tell you that the Indian Railway services are divided into two cadres. First is technical and second is non-technical. Both cadres are divided into 4 parts. That is Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D.
RRB Group a
Among these groups, Group A and Group B are official cadre posts. If understood in simple language, the highest level post in Railways comes under Group A. It includes engineer, medical and officer posts. Due to which most of the posts in Group A are recruited through UPSC exam. In which UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE), Engineering Service Examination (ESE) and Combined Medical Service (CMS) examination are conducted for selection of candidates.
A separate Special Class Railway Apprenticeship Examination (SCRA) is also conducted for candidates seeking employment in the railway sector after 12th standard.
RRB Group B
Railway Recruitment Board does not conduct examination for Group B posts. No one can apply for Group B post. Only promotion is given in Group B. Employees working in Group C category are promoted to Group B after some time by Railway Board.
RRB Group C
Group C includes posts like Clerk, Supervisor and Skilled Labour. Group C includes technical and many non-technical posts. Let us tell you that for Group C, 10th pass is mandatory for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) or Technician. Candidates who have passed 12th can apply for Ticket Collector. Those who have completed graduation degree can apply for the post of Assistant Station Master under Group C. Under Group C, recruitment in Railways is done by Railway Recruitment Board.
RRB Group d
Group D in Railways includes posts like Shooter, Sweeper, Trackman, Patawala and Tracker. Let us tell you that Railway Board does RRB Group D recruitment region wise, so along with releasing RRB Group D vacancies, it also releases region wise notifications.
