B.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing in IIT ISM will be started from next academic session (2024-25). This course will be of four years duration. Enrollment in this course will be taken through JEE Advance. The course will be conducted by the Department of Math and Computing.
This decision was taken in the Board of Governing (BOG) meeting of IIT Dhanbad. At present five years integrated M.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing is run by this department. Considering the inclination of the students towards this course, the Board of Governing of the Institute has decided to start a four-year B.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing. BOG meeting Chairman Prof. Premvrat was held under the chairmanship. In this meeting, the executive director of the institute, Prof. J.K. Patnaik, Deputy Director Prof. Dheeraj Kumar and members of the board were present.
BS-MS studies from 2025-26 After launching the B.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing, the BOG of the institute has also decided to launch a five-year integrated course Bachelor of Science, Master of Science course from the academic session (2025-26). The course will be conducted by the Chemistry Department of the Institute. In this course students have to study Biology along with Physics and Chemistry. Currently, BS-MS studies are conducted only in a few IITs in the country.
Establishment of Institutional Research and Development Board
The Board of Governing of IIT ISM has decided to make the research facilities in the institute world class. For this, the governing body has also approved the proposal for the formation of an Institutional Research and Development Board. This board will be chaired by Dean R&D of the institute. This board will help in further improving the research facilities of the institute. Also, the board will help develop excellent infrastructure for developing research facilities at Delhi and Kolkata centers of the institute.
