Sources say the meeting is likely to discuss mainly positive agenda, seat allocation, new strategy and joint public meetings. Sources say ‘Bharat’ coalition will seek caste-based counting, minimum support. Raise the issue of legal guarantee of price (MSP) and social security for workers. The meeting will be held at Ashoka Hotel in Delhi at 3 pm.

A day before the meeting, 78 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition coalition were suspended from both houses, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, amid fierce protests demanding accountability for lapses in Parliament’s security. The suspension was due to the participation of opposition MPs in a protest requesting Union Home Minister Amit Shah to give a statement on Parliament’s security lapses.

Let us tell you that 14 MPs were also suspended last week due to the uproar over security lapses in Parliament. The opposition coalition ‘Bharat’ has 95 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, of which 45 were suspended on Monday. On the other hand, the opposition coalition has a total of 133 MPs in the Lok Sabha, of which 46, or about one-third, are suspended. Out of the total 46 suspended MPs of Lok Sabha, 33 MPs were suspended on Monday while 13 were suspended earlier.

A senior Congress leader said the opposition parties want to remain united and march forward with the slogan “Main Nahi, Hum” to face Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the challenge before the opposition parties is to come up with an alternative and positive agenda to counter the BJP in the next general elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will contest the next Lok Sabha elections. For this, 26 opposition parties have formed ‘Bharat’ alliance. So far three meetings of ‘Bharat’ alliance have been held in Patna, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
