Dharamshala. During the World Cup match between India and New Zealand on Sunday, the poor outfield at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Dharamshala Stadium once again made headlines as several Indian players were seen diving away to avoid injury. Indian captain Rohit Sharma tried to dive early in New Zealand’s innings and injured his finger. Rohit had to go off the field for treatment. However, he later returned to lead the team.
In the 35th over of the match, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah decided to avoid diving while chasing the ball towards fine leg and this gave New Zealand captain Tom Latham four runs. Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler and Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott expressed disappointment over the bad outfield of this ground. Buttler said before the match against Bangladesh on October 9, “There is concern about the outfield. This is a bad outfield in my opinion. A lot of care has to be taken while fielding this.

‘Separate outfield during IPL’
“You want to dive to save a run but it has to be avoided here,” he said. This type of outfield is not seen during IPL. India won the toss and asked New Zealand to bat first. Darryl Mitchell, who came to bat at number-4, scored 130 runs after facing 127 balls. During this, nine fours and five sixes came from his bat. In this World Cup match, the New Zealand team gave India a target of 274 runs to win. New Zealand’s first two wickets fell cheaply. Then there was a partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell for the third wicket.
