As part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, the two-match Test series between Team India and South Africa begins today. The Indian cricket team has not won a single Test series on South African soil till date. Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will definitely want to end this drought in the two-match Test series. Apart from this, Team India captain Rohit Sharma will get a chance to join the unique club of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli during this Test series. In fact, till now only two players from India have scored a century as captain against South Africa, the first being Sachin Tendulkar and the second being Virat Kohli. If Rohit also scores a century in the two-match Test series, he will join this unique club.

The Indian cricket team toured South Africa in 1997 under the captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin played a memorable innings of 169 runs in Cape Town. In that match too, Team India lost by 135 runs against South Africa.

Talking about the Asian captains, apart from Sachin and Virat, Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne has scored a Test century in South Africa against South Africa. Karunaratne played an innings of 103 runs as captain in Johannesburg in 2021. As far as Asian countries are concerned, Sri Lanka are the only team to have beaten South Africa in a Test series at home.
