Former Indian cricketer and current specialist Sanjay Manjrekar has selected the Indian playing XI for the first Test against South Africa. He has included four fast bowlers and one spinner in this playing eleven. Ravindra Jadeja has shown Ashwin a way out as he is more capable of batting, while as a fast bowler he has opted for the popular Krishna and Shardul Thakur along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. Shardul can play an important role with the bat in South Africa. Apart from this, Manjrekar has selected Yashshwi Jaiswal as Rohit’s opening partner, while Shubman Gill has been kept at number-3. Virat Kohli can set South Africa on fire with the bat, scoring a century and becoming the number 1 batsman in the matter.
While selecting this playing XI on Star Sports Show, Sanjay Manjrekar said, ‘This will be a normal Centurion pitch where the spinners will get less help. Considering this I think India will go with 5 bowlers. Four fast bowlers, one of whom will be Shardul Thakur. The other three would be Krishna, Mohammad Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja will be the only spinner to be included in the squad due to his batting.
Manjrekar said about the batting order, ‘My top-3 would be Rohit Sharma, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Gill will be at number-3. After which Virat Kohli will be at number-4 and Shreyas Iyer at number-5. KL Rahul will be my wicket keeper batsman in this team.
