Indian Para-athletes created history on Saturday, October 29. Indian athletes won their 100th medal at the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, with Dilip Mahadu leading the country to a gold medal. India has won such a large number of medals in these Games for the first time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also happy with this achievement of the country. As of Friday 28 October, India had won 99 medals, including 25 gold medals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi X wrote, “100 medals in the Asian Para Games! A moment of unparalleled joy. This success is the result of the talent, hard work and determination of our athletes. This remarkable milestone fills our hearts with immense pride. I express my feelings. Our athletes, coaches And appreciation and gratitude to the entire support system working with them. This medal inspires us all. It reminds us that anything is possible for our youth. It’s not impossible.”
Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the gold medal in the men’s 400m T47 event. He captured the gold medal with a brilliant time of 49.48 seconds. For the first time, the Indian Para contingent has won 100 medals at the Games, making it their most successful Para Asian Games campaign to date. India has won 26 gold, 29 silver and 45 bronze medals till the time of writing. Thus the number of medals has reached three digits.
Let us tell you that the Asian Para Games is being organized for the fourth time and India has completed the medal century in the fourth attempt. At the same time, it took several decades for India to achieve this feat in the Men’s Asian Games. India won more than 100 medals in the Asian Games 2023 just a few months ago. The highest number of medals for a country came at the last Asian Para Games, when India won 72 medals including 15 gold, 24 silver and 33 bronze at Jakarta 2018.
