Washington: India has expressed a strong reaction to the death of Indian student Jhanvi Kandula in Seattle, America and has demanded an investigation into the matter. 23-year-old Jhanvi died after being hit by a police vehicle. After the clash, policemen were heard joking about the deaths, which sparked outrage among Indians on social media. This incident has forced India to take strict action, as the video is very painful.

Police officer Kevin Dave hit 23-year-old Janhvi Kandula in a crosswalk, the Associated Press reported. Seattle police officials said the suspect, Kevin Dave, was driving at a speed of 74 mph (119 km/h). In a video that has gone viral on social media, the police officer can be heard laughing and joking about Kandula’s death.

India took a tough stand
The Indian Embassy in San Francisco on Wednesday described the viral video of the incident and the police response as “deeply troubling”. “We have strongly raised this matter with local officials in Seattle and Washington State, as well as senior officials in Washington, DC,” a post on the social media site said.

The Indian mission mentioned in its post that it has asked the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take action against those involved in this tragic case. “The Embassy will continue to liaise closely with all relevant authorities on this matter,” the post said.

Jhanvi Kandula was a resident of Andhra Pradesh, India. She was a student of Northeastern University in South Lake Union, USA. She was near Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street when she was hit by a police vehicle.
