After the latest update in the rankings, Siraj has lost the number one crown.
India and New Zealand will face each other in the first semi-final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and the ICC has updated the rankings just hours before this important match, which has given Indian fast bowlers a jolt. Mohammad Siraj rose to number one in the ODI bowlers rankings during the World Cup, but after the latest update, he lost his position and was replaced by South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj.

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj on Tuesday became the world’s number one ODI bowler, overtaking Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. Siraj managed to retain the top ranking for only one week. Siraj replaced Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi as the world’s number one ODI bowler on November 8 but the South African spinner has overtaken him in the latest list.
Maharaj has taken seven wickets in three World Cup matches since November 1, including four against New Zealand in Pune. However, there is only three rating points difference between Siraj and Maharaj. Siraj is India’s fifth most successful bowler in the World Cup so far. He has taken 12 wickets in nine matches, with three for 16 being his best performance. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav are fourth and fifth respectively in the rankings. Bumrah is India’s most successful bowler in the current World Cup with 17 wickets in nine matches. In the bowling rankings, Mohammed Shami is at 12th and Ravindra Jadeja is at 19th.
India’s Shubman Gill, however, remains at the top of the batting rankings. Pakistan captain Babar Azam is second. There is a difference of eight rating points between Gill and him. Gill has scored 270 runs in seven matches in the World Cup so far.
Star batsman Virat Kohli remains at the fourth position. He is the tournament’s top scorer with 594 runs in nine matches with two centuries and five fifties. Captain Rohit Sharma is at the fifth position while Shreyas Iyer is at the 13th position. Lokesh Rahul is joint 17th with Australia’s Steve Smith.
Jadeja is ranked 10th in the list of all-rounders. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is on top. Hardik Pandya, who is out of the tournament due to a leg injury, has slipped to 16th place.
