According to the UN humanitarian agency, 20 of the 36 hospitals in Gaza are no longer functioning. WHO managed to contact health professionals at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the hospital in Gaza is no longer functioning as a hospital.
There are continuous attacks on the hospital
Let us tell you that the situation in northern Gaza is critical amid Israeli attacks where hospitals have been closed by Israeli forces and are unable to care for those inside. At least two newborns died in hospital, while more were at risk from power cuts, Reuters quoted medical workers as saying.
People have taken shelter in hospitals
Thousands of Gazans have sought shelter around Al-Shifa Hospital as fighting continues in the surrounding areas. The Palestinian Red Crescent said Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City has also closed due to a lack of generator fuel. Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of using Gazan hospitals for its operations.
Hamas attacked on October 7
The Israel-Hamas war, the deadliest in the region, began on October 7 when Hamas militants attacked Israel and took its citizens hostage. Hostage takers also include foreign nationals. At least 1200 people in Israel are reported to have been killed in this attack by Hamas.
In response to this attack by Hamas, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu launched airstrikes on Gaza and also expanded ground operations inside the Gaza Strip, vowing to destroy Hamas and its military capabilities.
Meeting on the Israel-Hamas war
It is worth mentioning that in the midst of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, in the meeting of Arab leaders and the President of Iran in the capital of Saudi Arabia on Saturday, they condemned Israel’s actions in the war against Hamas in Gaza. The meeting expressed apprehensions that the war might spread to other countries as well. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, opening the meeting, said that Saudi Arabia holds Israeli officials responsible for the crimes being committed against the Palestinian people. Regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, he said, “We are convinced that the only way to guarantee security, peace and stability in the region is to end the occupation and siege.”
