Sundar Pichai speaks on layoffs at Google

Company CEO Sundar Pichai has for the first time reacted to the layoffs from Google last year. He said that the retrenchment of his employees was extremely painful. The layoff of 6% of Alphabet’s workforce is a necessary step to transform the economy and prepare the company for future growth.

It is very difficult for any company to go through such a phase. This has never happened in our company in the last 25 years.
Pichai further said that it has become clear that if we had not taken that decision, it would have turned out to be a worse decision in the future. It would have been a major crisis for the company. I think it will be very difficult to build the capacity to invest in the sector in one year with so many changes in the world.
