Jhanvi Kandula’s body fell 100 feet after being hit by a car in America: Report

Jhanvi Kandula, an Indian student in Seattle, USA, died after being hit by a speeding police car in January. The incident took place when Jhanvi Kandula was crossing the road. The incident took place in Pulik’s car. According to the report, the car driven by police officer Kevin Dave was traveling at a speed of 119 kmph and the body of the girl fell more than 100 feet after the impact. Jhanvi was taken to Harborview Medical Center after the accident. He was rushed to the centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, ‘bodycam’ (body mounted camera) footage of a police officer has surfaced in which he is seen laughing and mocking the student’s death. Subsequently, India has strongly raised the matter with the US authorities for a thorough investigation and action against the culprits.

Bodycam footage released Monday by the Seattle Police Department shows Officer Daniel Orderer laughing about the fatal incident and dismissing Dave’s wrongdoing or the need for a criminal investigation. Commenting on the news, India’s Consul General in San Francisco described the way Kandula’s death in a road accident was handled as “highly chaotic”.

Who was Jhanvi Kandula?

23-year-old Jhanvi Kandula was from Andhra Pradesh, India. She was pursuing a master’s degree from Northeastern University in South Lake Union. Jhanvi went to America from Bengaluru under a student exchange program in 2021 and was scheduled to graduate this December. Kandula’s family cannot believe that she is no longer with them. His grandfather told NDTV that the family is still not over the shock and the policeman’s behavior is deepening it. Jhanvi Kandula’s grandfather said, “How can anyone speak like this after a tragic accident…?”
