The jersey worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s victorious campaign in the Football World Cup (2022) will be auctioned. The auction of six shirts (jerseys) worn during the World Cup 2022 campaign is expected to fetch more than $10 million (roughly Rs. 83 crore). According to auction house Sotheby’s, this could be the most valuable collection of sports memorabilia ever created.
Sotheby’s said on Monday that six of the seven jerseys worn by the Argentina captain in Qatar will be put up for sale in New York, including the one he wore during the thrilling final win over France. Messi, like many other football players, swaps his shirt with someone from the opposing team at the end of each match.
Argentina won their third World Cup by defeating France in a penalty shootout after a 3–3 draw in the FIFA World Cup final at the Lucelle Stadium. Messi scored two goals for his country in this match. The jersey from this memorable match will also be auctioned, which is expected to fetch a huge sum. If it costs around Rs 83 crore, it will be a record in itself.
