Dhaka. Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal and all-rounder Mahmudullah have been included in Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for the first two matches of the 3-match home ODI series against New Zealand (BAN vs NZ). Veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah was dropped from the squad after the series against England in March due to poor form while Tamim was troubled by a back injury.

All-rounder Soumya Sarkar and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan have also returned to the squad, but captain Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehdi Hasan have been rested along with the fast bowling trio of Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmood and Shariful Islam. Liton Das will lead the team in Shakib’s absence. Naeem Sheikh, Afif Hussain and Shamim Hussain, who are part of the Asia Cup squad, have been shown the way out. Three ODIs against New Zealand will be played in Mirpur on September 21, 23 and 26.

Returned from retirement at the behest of PM

Earlier, Tamim Iqbal had recently announced to quit the captaincy of the ODI team. He also hastily announced his retirement from ODIs but took a U-turn from retirement at the request of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh Team (For 1st and 2nd ODIs): Liton Das (Captain), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Anamul Haque, Tauheed Hriday, Mahmudullah, Nurul Hasan, Mehdi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzeem Hasan Saqib, Tanzeed Hasan Tamim, Zakir Hasan, Rishad Hussain and Syed Khalid Ahmed.
