Manila. The death toll from a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in the southern Philippines has risen to six, with two others missing. The disaster agency gave this information on Saturday. Edgardo Posadas, director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said at least 450 people in the quake-hit areas needed medical care, Xinhua news agency reported.
The offshore earthquake occurred at 4.14 pm on Friday. It was centered about 34 km northwest of Sarangani town in Occidental Province at a depth of 72 km. The tremors were also felt in many areas of the island of Mindanao, causing damage to buildings and houses. Aftershocks continued to hit the area.
