Indian students studying in Ukraine have to work in medical wards for two years for internship in medical colleges of the country. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has sent its directives to all medical colleges. Students studying in Ukraine who have missed two years or more of studies have to work in the ward of SKMCH or another medical college for two years. SKMCH Administrative Officer Dr. Ramakant Prasad said that currently nine students studying from abroad are doing internship in the medical college.

Four of them have returned from Ukraine. Apart from Ukraine, foreign students are from China and the Philippines. More than 50 students from North Bihar studying medicine from Ukraine were trapped. There were also students from Muzaffarpur district. The NMC has said that students coming from Ukraine and other countries will have to register with the State Medical Council for internship in medical colleges of the country.

Stipend will be available after one year
The NMC has said that medical students from other countries will complete a year’s work in medical colleges of the country and only after being certified by the institute will get the same stipend as students studying in Indian institutes. After working in the medical ward for two years, the students will also be given an opportunity for further internship.

Will work under Academic Mobility Programme
Students returning from Ukraine will be given an opportunity to work at SKMCH or other medical colleges under the Academic Mobility Program. Under this students have to submit the transfer certificate of their institution in Ukraine here. These students will receive their degree from their home institution in Ukraine.

BS courses from the Philippines are not recognized
The National Medical Commission has said in a letter that BS courses conducted in the Philippines will not be recognised. Indian students taking admission in BS course in Philippines will not get the opportunity to work in any medical institute in the country. NMC has said that students studying in foreign medical institutes who have taken admission in MD course before November 18, 2021, can extend their course.
