NDTV visited the Special Intensive Respiratory Care Unit set up by Global Hospitals in Parel, central Mumbai. Dr. Prashant Borade said, “About 50% of patients with such symptoms who come to the OPD or one of the two patients have to be admitted for at least a day or two. About 30% of patients require ICU admission. Cases of lung cancer are also on the rise. .”

Dr. Borade also considers Covid responsible for lung cancer. He said, “Besides, another reason is air pollution. The air quality index is increasing day by day and particles less than 10 microns are also increasing. These particles enter the lungs. If it is more than 10 microns, it can be “there”. . have filters. But particles smaller than 10 microns cannot be filtered and cause problems for humans.”

Dr. Borade said that the hospital has seen a 100% increase in patients suffering from respiratory diseases. Due to increasing pollution, the condition of chronic respiratory patients is becoming dire. Young people are also coming to the hospital with difficulty breathing.

Dr. Borade said, “Such respiratory diseases include shortness of breath, wheezing and chronic cough, which does not go away even after giving antibiotics. It looks like asthma but may or may not be asthma.. “We have inhalers and Some inhalers will have to be provided. Medicines. Some patients also require steroids. Air pollution reduces lung immunity.”

Elderly people and diabetic or cancer patients have to take special care of their health. He also advised not to walk in the evening. Doctor said that people should choose morning walk in green places.
