At the BRICS meeting held on Tuesday to discuss the Israel-Hamas conflict, India said the current crisis was triggered by terrorist attacks and no one should compromise with terrorism. India also called for addressing the concerns of the Palestinians and emphasized on a ‘two-state’ solution.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed this digital meeting on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that in view of the crisis in Gaza, India has sent 70 tonnes of humanitarian aid and will continue to provide assistance.
Hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the meeting was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, among others.
Jaishankar said, “It is also important that all the hostages are released. We believe that there is a universal responsibility to abide by international humanitarian law. We all know that the current crisis started with the October 7 terror attack. As far as terrorism is concerned, None of us should compromise on that. Even taking hostages is unacceptable and cannot be condoned.”
The Foreign Minister said, ‘We believe that the concerns of the Palestinian people must be addressed seriously and consistently. This can only be resolved by a two-state solution based on peaceful co-existence.
BRICS members include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
