Thiruvananthapuram. Noted theater director and playwright Prashanth Narayanan passed away at a government hospital here on Thursday. Sources gave this information. Prashant Narayanan was 51 years old and was undergoing treatment for lung disease.
Narayan, who has made his mark in the theater world for more than three decades, directed around 60 plays. He also wrote a large number of plays, some of which broke the boundaries of language and won the hearts of theater lovers.
Renowned Malayalam actors Mohanlal and Mukesh starred in the play ‘Chhayamukhi’ written by Prashant, which further increased his (Prashanth’s) fame among the audience in the state. Narayan also directed many famous plays like ‘Manikarnika’, ‘Taj Mahal’ and ‘Kara’.
Narayanan has been awarded several prestigious honors including the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award for Best Playwriting in 2003. Kerala Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian in his condolence message said that the state has lost a talented artiste who has left his mark in the world of theater over the last three decades.
