Ahead of IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya shocked everyone by leaving Gujarat Titans (GT) and returning home to Mumbai Indians (MI). People did not understand why Hardik eventually parted ways with the team, which had once become IPL champions and then runners-up under his captaincy. There was also this question in the minds of many people that now what will be the role of Hardik in MI? A few days ago, Mumbai also answered this question by replacing Rohit Sharma with Hardik.
Former Indian captain and great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has also surprised Hardik by leaving GT. However, Gavaskar feels that Hardik may have come back because of his special affinity for MI. Let us tell you that Hardik made his IPL debut for MI in 2015 and has since touched new heights of success. He parted ways with Mumbai ahead of IPL 2022 but returned to his old team after two seasons. MI have added Hardik through a cash deal.
Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day, ‘Hardik Pandya Mumbai Indians There was already speculation about his transfer/trade. This was a bit of a surprise as Pandya led the Gujarat team to not only two consecutive finals but also one title. It seemed to settle well in the GT. If a successful captain wants to leave a successful franchise, his reasons are more than the average fan can imagine. Pandyan was picked by Mumbai Indians along with Hardik in his early days and is now a big name not only in Indian cricket but also in the world game.
Gavaskar further added, “Also, there is still a lot of speculation as to why Hardik wanted to quit GT and why he wanted to go back to where he started. But aren’t there many examples of very successful Indians abroad who chose to leave everything and come back home? Pandya has never hidden the fact that he considers Mumbai Indians his home. This tells you about the great family atmosphere created by Mumbai Indians. Those who have moved on from MI have nothing but good things to say about the franchise.
