Study Abroad: Indian students currently have the largest number of international students. Ireland in particular will have the largest population of international Indian students. A total of 4,735 Indian students have enrolled in Ireland for the year 2022-23, a year-on-year increase of 17.8%, according to the latest data from the global education platform Apply Board. If this growth of Indian students continues, they will soon surpass American students and become the largest number of students. At a time when Ireland has become a popular study destination for Indian students, it has become important for foreign students to know what kind of scholarships and government schemes are available here. Especially with regard to Indian students.

Irish Government International Scholarships:
The Government of Ireland runs several international scholarship programs that are offered to talented students who wish to pursue master’s or doctoral level studies here. Funding for this program is provided by the Government of Ireland in collaboration with the higher education institutions present here. Under this scheme 60 students are awarded scholarship for PhD level program every year. Successful candidates must have a confirmed seat (offer of place) at an Irish higher education institution. This scholarship is worth around 10,000 Euros i.e. around Rs. 9 lakh 16 thousand is given. The application process for this scheme in Ireland will start from January 2024.

Educational institutions also offer scholarships:
Higher education institutions in Ireland also offer some special scholarships to foreign students. Indian students can also avail this. Scholarship schemes of higher educational institutions vary from institution to institution.

Some of the special scholarships in institutions are as follows:
1. Trinity College Dublin: Here students get partial scholarships ranging from 2 thousand Euros to 5000 Euros (€5,000) i.e. about four and a half lakh rupees. Here Indian meritorious students are also given first year college fee waiver along with scholarship. But this scheme is applicable only in certain courses.

2. University College Dublin (UCD): Global Excellence Scholarships are awarded to foreign students taking admission here. Only students who have been admitted to or have received an offer to any program at UCD can apply for this scheme. The last date to apply for Master’s degree program students under this scheme is 28th February 2024. While the last date to apply for undergraduate course students is 31 March 2024. The Global Excellence Scholarship is funded by the institution in the form of tuition fees.

3. National College of Ireland: This college has three types of scholarships for undergraduate students. €2,000–4,000 is awarded annually to undergraduate students who have obtained 70% or more in 12th. The scholarship amount depends on the merit of the student.
