Pakistan team had a disappointing performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Babar Azam-led team managed to win only four out of nine matches and were eliminated from the league stage. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked the entire selection committee after a flop show in the World Cup. An interim selection committee was appointed after Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned as chief selector. Let us tell you that Inzamam resigned after the news came out alleging ‘conflict of interest’. Former Test cricketer Tauseef Ahmed has taken over as chief selector in his place.

Former captain Mohammad Hafeez and veteran batsman Younis Khan may be given important responsibilities following the sacking of the selection committee. It is being said that both are in the race to become the chief selector. There is also talk that Younis may be made the batting coach. Hafeez, Younis besides former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanveer met PCB chief Zaka Ashraf at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday (November 14). Ashraf is looking for a new chief selector who understands modern cricket.

Pakistan is scheduled to tour Australia for a three-Test series in December 2023 and January 2024. According to a Geo News report, the Pakistan team for the Australia tour will be selected by a new selection committee. After the Australian tour, Pakistan will play 19 T20 matches before the T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and America in June. Pakistan won its only T20 World Cup in 2009 under the leadership of Younis. On the other hand, Hafiz’s captaincy record in T20 cricket is good.
