Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, a major contributor to India’s hotel industry, passed away on Tuesday morning. He was 94 years old. PRS Oberoi, chairman emeritus of the Oberoi Group, was instrumental in reshaping the Indian hotel industry. Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi’s last rites will be performed this evening at Kapshera-based Bhagwanti Oberoi Charitable Trust, the company said in an official statement.
PRS Oberoi has been awarded several awards including the Padma Vibhushan for his exceptional contribution to the country in the field of tourism and hospitality. PRS Oberoi was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the year 2008. In the year 2022, he stepped down as Executive Chairman of EIH Limited and Chairman of EIH Associated Hotels Limited. PRS Oberoi opened international luxury level hotels in many cities of the country. The Oberoi brand has now become synonymous with exceptional luxury hotels.
In recognition of PRS Oberoi’s exceptional leadership and vision, he was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market). PRS Oberoi was awarded ‘Corporate Hotelier of the World’ by Hotel Magazine USA. The 6th International Hotels Investment Forum in Berlin honored him with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been honored with Forbes India Leadership Awards, Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence, CNBC TV 18 India Business Leader Awards, Business India Magazine’s Businessman of the Year, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
