Rajasthan Elections: Police seized Rs 436 crore worth of cash, liquor and drugs.

The Rajasthan Police has seized the largest ever haul of cash, liquor and narcotics worth Rs 436 crore during the recently concluded assembly elections in the state. This was probably used to woo voters. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Officials said the seizure was six times more than during the 2018 elections when cash, liquor and drugs worth Rs 65 crore were seized by the Rajasthan police.

Overall, various agencies deployed to ensure free and fair elections in the state have spent Rs. 690 crore in cash was seized, where 199 of the total 200 Assembly seats went to polls on November 25, according to Election Commission data. The Election Commission had implemented the code of conduct in the state on October 9. According to official information, cash worth Rs 47 crore, liquor worth Rs 39 crore and narcotics worth Rs 87 crore have been seized out of the total seizure of Rs 436 crore since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct.

According to officials, the police launched several special operations to curb illegal activities during the election process, including an operation codenamed ‘Jackpot’ against organized groups. Similarly, campaign ‘Nakkashi’ was launched to increase security at checkposts, while ‘Madiradhar’ was launched to trace the movement of illegal liquor in the state, officials said. He said that a special initiative called ‘Blood Moon’ was launched to ensure intensive patrolling and checking during the night.

A senior police officer said that the police had also created a ‘war room’ like a control unit called ‘Storm Club’ and all the personnel were encouraged with special mention of their achievements. During the last assembly elections in 2018, Rs 10 crore was seized in just one district, while this time eight districts crossed the mark of illegal seizure of Rs 20 crore, while two districts seized Rs 35 crore.
