Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari resigned after winning from Vidyadhar Nagar assembly seat. From Vidyadhar Nagar, he defeated Sitaram Aggarwal of Congress by over 71,000 votes.
Diya Kumari, the granddaughter of Maharaja Man Singh II, the last ruler of the Jaipur princely state, appealed for votes as the “daughter of Jaipur”. Diya Kumari is counted among the foundation leaders and her royal family heritage has made her a popular figure among the people of Rajasthan.

Contested three elections, won all three by a landslide.
Since joining the BJP in 2013, Diya Kumari has contested three elections, winning all three. In 2013, Diya Kumari became MLA from Sawai Madhopur constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she was elected MP from Rajasamand with the largest margin of nearly five and a half lakh votes. Now he has won the 2023 assembly election from Vidyadhar Nagar.
Father Bhawani Singh was an army officer.
Diya is the daughter of Bhawani Singh of the former royal family of Jaipur. Bhawani Singh achieved distinction as the Lieutenant Colonel and Commanding Officer of the 10th Parachute Regiment Para Commando in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
While campaigning for the assembly elections, 52-year-old Dia Kumari emphasized on environment, education, healthcare and women empowerment. In 2019, he was selected to serve as a member of the government’s National Tiger Conservation Authority. Diya Kumari is associated with many voluntary organizations and social organizations. These include the Eye Bank Society of Rajasthan and RAISE, an NGO working for HIV+ children, of which he is the patron.
Bairwa defeated former minister Babulal Nagar
Premchand Bairwa is MLA from Dudu assembly seat near Jaipur. He won the November 25 election by over 35,000 votes against Babulal Nagar of the Congress. Babulal has also been Municipal Minister.
An attempt is made to solve the equations of caste
The decision to make Bairav the Deputy Chief Minister is being seen as solving caste equations. The BJP has made a Brahmin chief minister, while the deputy chief ministers include one Rajput and another from a scheduled caste. The Bairwa community has traditionally voted for the Congress and Premchand Bairwa’s name could be a strategic move by the party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
BJP surprised in Chhattisgarh and MP too
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP picked former cabinet minister Mohan Yadav for the top post, over the party’s longest-serving chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. For Chhattisgarh, the party decided to replace three-time chief minister Raman Singh with tribal leader Vishnudev Sai. PM Modi wanted a tribal leader to be the chief minister of the state and Sai is also considered a favorite of the party’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
