Rescue operation underway to save 40 laborers trapped in Uttarakhand tunnel, oxygen being given through pipe

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: A part of an under-construction tunnel collapsed yesterday morning in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. After which a multi-agency operation was conducted throughout the night to rescue the workers trapped inside the tunnel. Let it be known that an under-construction tunnel on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway at Silkyara in Uttarkashi district partially collapsed at around 5 am yesterday, trapping 40 workers inside.

Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and police. It has now been 24 hours and rescue operations are going on continuously. So far the nest has gone out 15 to 20 meters.

Oxygen is being supplied to workers through pipes.
A senior official told NDTV that all 40 workers are safe and are being supplied with oxygen through pipes. “Everyone is safe, we are in constant touch with the trapped workers,” said Prashant Kumar.

So far about 20 meters of slab has been removed
He said that water and food items are also being sent to the workers trapped in the tunnel (Uttarakhand tunnel collapse). The collapsed part of the tunnel is located about 200 meters from the entrance and about 20 meters of slab has been removed so far to open the tunnel. Rescue teams are removing the debris using excavators and other heavy machines.

Let us tell you that the purpose of this tunnel is to connect Silkyara with Dandalgaon in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. It is being built under the Char Dham Road Project and aims to reduce the journey from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri Dham by 26 km.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wished the workers a safe exit.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that after receiving information about the incident, he is in constant contact with the authorities. The agencies have reached the spot and started rescue and relief operations. He said he prays to God that everyone comes out safely soon.
