New Delhi. In the final of the World Cup 2023, the Indian team had to face defeat at the hands of Australia. The Rohit Sharma brigade impressed everyone with their brilliant performances throughout the tournament but on a ‘bad day’ their performance fell short of expectations and ended with a 6-wicket defeat against Australia (IND vs AUS). The dream was broken. Former Pakistan captain and best batsman Salman Butt has praised the Australian team’s performance in the title match.
Butt said on his YouTube channel, ‘Australia was a different team in the final. He did not let the Indian team breathe. His field placement in the final was different.’ This former Pakistani cricketer said, ‘Australian players were constantly changing the speed of the ball while bowling. He kept getting regular wickets and the team took very few hits on the old ball.’
He said that India lost a bit of courage because of the toss. However, the start was good and Rohit Sharma was a class out. I think the mistake they make is that in big matches like the World Cup final you should catch a ‘par score’. When you achieve this score, ‘kick on’. Australia bowled exceptionally well. India had never seen a situation where both Rohit and Virat were out with 25 overs left. Such a situation happened in this match. In this match Rohit Sharma gave his wicket to Australia while Virat Kohli was unlucky. He also questioned captain Rohit Sharma’s strategy of not letting the Indian spinners slip in the overs during Australia’s batting.
Butt said- I think Suryakumar Yadav has not taken much responsibility. I didn’t understand what Suryakumar was doing. He should have played more balls himself when he was batting with tailenders but instead of playing big shots he went to the non-striker’s end with a single. India couldn’t recover from Kohli’s dismissal. . During Australia’s batting, India got swing in the first 10-15 overs. They tried their best. After three wickets, India did not get a wicket for a long time. Batting became easier after the mist came. Rohit is usually an aggressive captain but he did not slip against the spinners. You had to take wickets to defend the score of 240. Didn’t understand why Rohit didn’t take the slip? When there was no other way to win that match except by taking wickets.
