Ross Taylor on IND vs NZ: Four years ago, New Zealand ended India’s dominance in the 2019 World Cup by defeating a Virat Kohli-led side in a rain-affected semi-final. Like 2019, this time too India has reached the semi-finals by being on top of the league stage. New Zealand, who have made a good start to the tournament, have reached the semi-finals, finishing fourth in the league stage with 10 points from five wins in nine matches. Former cricketer Ross Taylor believes that India will be nervous when they face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup. He said, “Four years ago, India reached the semi-finals as the most in-form team in the tournament when our focus was more on making sure we kept Pakistan out of the last top four spot on our net run rate.”
“India are an even bigger contender this time, they are playing at home and have done very well in the league stage, but when there is nothing to lose, a New Zealand team becomes dangerous,” Taylor said. He said, “If India will be nervous to face any team, it is the New Zealand team.”
However, the road to New Zealand will not be easy either. Taylor said, “We have a tough challenge ahead of us but it was the same in 2019. It was a two-day match (due to rain). This was a strange situation for me. I was not out at night. It is very nerve-wracking even in Test cricket, let alone ODIs and even World Cup semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played at the Wankhede Stadium where big scores will be produced. Taylor said that if New Zealand manage to take early wickets, they can put a lot of pressure on India’s middle order.
