Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with his Indian counterpart S. After the conversation with Jaishankar, he said, ‘We support India’s candidature to join the United Nations Security Council as a permanent member.’

Lavrov said this year’s G20 summit in New Delhi was ‘a true victory for India’s foreign policy; It was a triumph of multilateral diplomacy.” In fact, at the G20 summit, India managed to bring together countries with completely different views on Ukraine. The G20 declaration avoided direct criticism of Russia for its war in Ukraine, so it was hailed as an important diplomatic victory for host India.

Lavrov also said that Russia is ready to start production of modern weapons under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. According to state news agency Tas, Lavrov said they discussed the prospects of military-technical cooperation between Russia and India, including joint production of modern weapons. “Solid progress has been made in this matter,” Lavrov said.

He said Russia understands New Delhi’s initiative and is ready to support it. He said, ‘Under the Make in India programme, goods used for military purposes will be manufactured. We are ready to cooperate in this regard.”
