Gavaskar on Sanju Samson
Sunil Gavaskar on Sanju Samson: Team India has won the three-match ODI series against South Africa by 2-1. Team India didn’t get off to a good start with three batsmen returning to the pavilion short of 100 runs, after which it looked like the team would be able to set Africa a target of 250 runs. After which something similar happened, Sanju and Tilak Verma (Sanju Samson and Tilak Verma Partnership) propelled Team India’s innings with great consistency. Samson completed his half century in 66 balls and Sanju scored 108 runs in 114 balls along with his maiden ODI century. At the other end, Verma hit his first four off the 39th ball. He was seen struggling to score runs but supported Samson very well.
Gavaskar said on Sanju’s century
On Sanju’s century Gavaskar (Sunil Gavaskar on Sanju Samson’s ODI century) said that his shot selection in this innings was the most special for me, many times before he couldn’t play big innings even after a good start, but today you saw it. “Can’t be wrong, I think this century will change his career and give him more opportunities because of it,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Gavaskar further said that after this innings he will be able to believe in himself more, sometimes you know you can do it but luck is not with you, we all know how much talent he has.
In an attempt to score a quick run, Verma was caught out by Vian Mulder in the deep off Maharaj. Even after he left, Samson didn’t lose his rhythm. He completed his century by taking Maharaj to long off for a run. However, soon after, he was caught by Riza Hendricks while trying to play a high shot to fast bowler Lizard Williams. Rinku Singh, as per his reputation, scored explosive runs and added 38 runs off 27 balls. However, South Africa took three wickets one after the other to prevent India from crossing the 300-run mark.
Earlier, Rajat Patidar, who came to open the innings in place of the injured Ruturaj Gaekwad, scored 22 runs in 16 balls. Bargar sent him to the pavilion. When Hendricks got Sai Sudarshan out lbw. KL Rahul shared a 52-run partnership with Samson but Mulder was caught behind the wicket by Indian captain Henrik Klaasen while trying to play a pull shot.
