Javed Miandad on Shan Masood Test captaincy: After Pakistan’s poor performance in the World Cup, the team management and the board have been in a lot of turmoil. Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has decided to step down as captain. Before him, Ijamam ul-Haq resigned from his post. After this, Wahab Riaz has been appointed as Chief Selector, Mohammad Hafeez as Team Director, while Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul as Bowling Coaches. Apart from this, Pakistan has also announced the names of the different captains of the Test and T20 teams. Shan Madus has been named the captain of the Test team and the team is scheduled to play a three-match Test series in Perth from December 14. Earlier, Pakistan’s former veteran player Javed Miandad expressed his opinion about making Shan Masood the captain.

Pakistan cricket great Javed Miandad feels that Sarfaraz Ahmed would have been a better choice than newly appointed Shan Masood to lead the Test team in Australia. Miandad told the media in Karachi, “It is clear that Sarfaraz is a very experienced player and has done well as captain for Pakistan in the past and would have been important for the team in Australia if he had been made captain. Because the journey there is difficult.”
Javed Miandad further said, “Sarfraz should not only have been given a place in the team against Australia but should also have been made the captain considering his experience.” Apart from this, regarding the recent changes in the Pakistan team management, Miandad said that he always felt that there should be an age gap between coaches and players in international cricket. Miandad further said that he believes there is no respect between players and coaches without age difference.
“I don’t see any logic in bringing in players as selectors, coaches and directors who have played with most of the current players,” Miandad said. The former Pakistan skipper also lamented that people who know nothing about modern cricket removed Babar Azam from the captaincy in all three formats. “This will have a negative impact on the team in the days to come,” he said. Miandad also decried the board’s habit of turning to foreign coaches.
Miandad further said, “We have had many foreign coaches in the last two decades and where we stand as a cricketing nation, we have not even reached the semi-finals of the World Cup. Mickey Arthur’s appointment is on his terms. It all reflects an insult to those who Can do better as a coach for Pakistan. He said that India has achieved remarkable success in recent times in all formats and its previous three coaches Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri and now Rahul Dravid, including veterans.
