Speaking to a Pakistani channel, Ganguly said that this has the effect of players preferring T20 over the longer format and there is a need to strike a balance. Comparing the campaigns of India and Pakistan, Sourav dismissed the idea that India’s success was solely due to the IPL. He said that IPL is not the only reason for India’s success in international cricket. Quality does not come just by playing IPL. This comes from playing cricket for four-five days. If you play too much T20 cricket, you will become completely ordinary.

The former captain said that I always say that you should earn money by playing T20, but if you want to be a player, you have to play four-five days of cricket. He said that the entire credit of India’s success cannot be given to IPL. This should be attributed to our strong local formation and pool of talented players. Ganguly highlighted the importance of playing four or five-day cricket for the development of players.

Sourav said players should be like Wasim Akram, who bowled 20-30 overs every day. He was as quick with the old ball as he was with the new ball. I think not only the IPL, but the entire Indian cricket structure is amazing. A lot of matches are organized here, a lot of players and we are lucky in this respect.
