South Africa head coach Rob Walter, dejected after losing in the World Cup semi-finals for the fifth time, will not be watching the final but believes it is the right time for India, the tournament’s best team, to lift the trophy. India have won all their 10 matches in the ongoing World Cup and booked their place in the final where they will face five-time champions Australia in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“To be honest, there’s a one per cent chance I’ll see (the final),” Walter said after South Africa’s loss to Australia in the second semi-final. And to be more honest, I really don’t care.”

However, Walter was quick to say that it would be better for India to win the trophy on home soil. He said, “Obviously, the World Cup is being played in India, so it is always good for the host country to win the World Cup. Looking at the atmosphere here, I think it will be right for India to win the trophy.

Batting first, the South African team was bowled out for 212 runs. Australia reached the target in 47.2 overs to enter the final where they will face India in Ahmedabad on Sunday. “To me, a choker is a match that you lose even though you’re in a position to win it,” Walter explained his definition of ‘chokers’.

He told reporters after the match that we were behind from the start in this match. We tried really well to come back and score where we could challenge them.”

Walter said that if he had scored 30 or 40 more runs, the outcome of the match would have been different. “We kept fighting and got back into the match but obviously at the end we were 30 or 40 runs behind,” he said. However, we did not let them achieve the target easily and took their seven wickets.
