The Proteas beat the reigning champions England (SA vs ENG) by 229 runs to register their third win in 4 matches, while this is England’s third loss in four matches. Before this, England had to face defeat against Afghanistan in the last match. The Proteas team suffered a humiliating defeat against the Netherlands in their last match. The South African team has 6 points from 4 matches and is third in the points table behind New Zealand and India. Klaasen was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his explosive century.

Chasing the mammoth target of 400 runs set by South Africa, the England team was bowled out for 170 runs in 22 overs. He lost 5 of his wickets at the score of 64. Opener Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for 10 runs while veteran Joe Root scored 2 runs. David Malan returned to the pavilion scoring 6 runs while Ben Stokes scored 5 runs in the return match. Captain Jos Buttler contributed 15 runs. Young Harry Brooke also disappointed. Brook returned to the pavilion scoring 17 runs. Adil Rashid played an innings of 10 runs. Atkinson was dismissed for 35 runs.

This is South Africa’s highest score against England in this World Cup. Klaasan hit 4 sixes and 12 fours during his fourth century innings. He scored 109 runs in 67 balls. Jansen scored an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls with the help of 3 fours and 6 sixes. This is the first half-century of his career.

Hendricks and Dusen added 121 runs for the second wicket
Openers Riza Hendricks (85 runs) and Rasi van der Deusen (60 runs) laid the foundations for a big score with a 121-run partnership for the second wicket. Henrik Klaasen completed his third century of the year in the 47th over of the innings off Mark Wood for a six and a four off 61 balls. Klaassen and Jensen put on 151 runs for the sixth wicket in just 77 balls, which is now the record for South Africa against England in ODI and World Cup history.
