Station Manager Rakesh Sharma, who embarked on a ‘mission’ to return lost luggage of railway passengers, received an honor from the Railways.

Awarded to New Delhi Railway Station Manager: Often when we move from one place to another, our luggage is left behind in trains, buses, cars and autos with little hope of finding it. You can consider yourself lucky if your luggage is left at New Delhi railway station. Because New Delhi Railway Station Manager Rakesh Sharma has delivered many people’s left luggage safely so far. Rakesh has so far returned the luggage of more than 1000 passengers. Rakesh, who is working as a manager at the New Delhi station, has been honored by the railways for this work. Rakesh Sharma has been working to return lost goods to their owners since 2006.

Sharma, from Gurdaspur, Punjab, got a job in the railways at the age of 24 and for the past seven years has been doing the noble work of delivering luggage left by passengers on trains. Earlier the baggage lost in the train was deposited in the railway’s lost property, now with the help of PNR and social media either Rakesh finds the passengers and delivers the baggage or the passengers reach there looking for them.

Railway passenger Arvind said our luggage was left in C14 at Amritsar Shatabdi, I was told you can go to Rakesh Sharma and find your luggage there. I have reached him today and the way he has tried, I have never seen such efforts in railways.

Santosh Kumar took a train from Patna to Delhi two years ago, but due to excess luggage, he forgot his bag on the train seat. He got his lost luggage back in just two hours. A railway passenger said that after receiving the goods he was very surprised that the railways acted so quickly… After this I came to know about Rakesh Sharma that he does this kind of work with great interest.
