India will take over the presidency of ONS at the end of 2025

Various bilateral talks will also be organized on the sidelines of the conclave to improve maritime cooperation and understanding between IONS countries. India will hold the Presidency of IONS (2025-27) during the 9th COC to be held in India in late 2025. According to the ministry, in 2008, the Indian Navy envisioned IONS as a platform that seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the navies of littoral states in the Indian Ocean region.

The MoD press release states, “IONS provides an open and inclusive platform for discussion on regionally relevant maritime issues, leading to a common understanding on the way forward. The inaugural edition of IONS was held in New Delhi in 2008. The Indian Navy was also involved.
