Earlier, the Bangladesh cricket team also canceled its practice session on Friday. The 38th ICC match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be played on November 6 (SL vs BAN) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Bangladesh team arrived in Delhi on Wednesday but decided not to practice on Friday as pollution levels in the city reached the ‘severe plus’ category.

The Sri Lankan players also thought it best to stay indoors on Saturday as the air quality index (AQI) was 407 in the morning. Referring to Saturday’s practice session, a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) source said, ‘It was canceled due to air quality issues.’ The Bangladesh team is ready to brave the pollution two days before the match on Monday. As per the schedule, the team will practice on Saturday from 6 pm.

An ICC spokesperson told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, ‘We are currently assessing the situation. The health of all participants is important to the ICC and our host BCCI. We are monitoring the air quality in Delhi. We are consulting experts to assess the situation. Air quality is usually assessed by match officials on match day. During a Test match against India in 2017, Sri Lankan players took to the field wearing masks to fight pollution.
The players started coughing
Bangladesh team director Khalid Mahmood said on Friday that his players started coughing after going out in the city and hence the management decided to cancel the first practice session. “A lot of cricketers went out yesterday (Thursday) and some of them are complaining of cough so there is a risk associated with it,” he said at the team hotel. For all these reasons we have decided to cancel the practice session so that the players do not get sick.
