Even his small stature, scarred face and hoarse voice did not hinder his talent. Om Puri, along with his classmate and close friend Naseeruddin Shah, took the other side of Bollywood films and planted the seed of art that is blossoming as a fruitful tree today. While the mainstream cinematic streets of Bollywood had a lot of action and romance, Om Puri preferred to do artistic and down-to-earth films. This decision took him to Hollywood after 10 years and even here Hollywood veterans praised his art. He left a deep impression with his acting in films like ‘Bhavni’ (1980), ‘Sadgati’ (1981), ‘Ardhasatya’ (1982), ‘Dharavi’ (1992) released in 1980.
