Big news for central employees on HRA, understand when it will be applicable

7th Pay Commission Latest: Last month, during Navratri, the central government announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) of its employees. After this announcement, the employees’ allowance has now increased from 42% to 46%. After this now central employees are waiting for increase in their housing allowance rent i.e. HRA. However, employees will have to wait for this. Today we will tell you when central employees will get HRA.

When will the increase occur: The 7th Pay Commission recommendations have given some important guidelines for HRA. According to this, when Dearness Allowance That is, if the DA is more than 50 percent then the HRA will also be revised. Cities are divided into three categories for increasing HRA. These categories are- X, Y and Z. If the employee resides in the cities/towns of category X, his HRA will increase to 30 percent. Similarly, the HRA rate for Y category will be 20 percent and for Z category it will be 10 percent.

At what rates HRA is now available: Currently the DA rate is below 50 percent. In such a situation, employees residing in cities/towns of X, Y and Z get 27, 18 and 9 percent HRA respectively.

Good news is coming in 2024. If everything goes well then the central employees will get the good news of HRA hike in the first half of the new year itself. In fact, currently DA is 46 percent and it is estimated that the government will increase DA by 4 percent in the first half of 2024 as well. If this happens, the DA will increase to 50 percent. It means that HRA of employees will also increase along with DA by 50 percent.
