New Delhi: Days after reports that police soon arrested two men believed to be responsible for shooting dead Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, India said on Friday it had no information on the matter. “Certainly we have no information about this,” said Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.

Bagchi was asked during a press conference about a media report that said Canada could arrest two suspects in Nijjar’s killing “within a few weeks.” News published in Canada’s “The Global and Mail” newspaper said the suspects are under police surveillance and may be arrested within a few weeks.
According to three unnamed sources cited by the newspaper, the two suspected killers have not left Canada since Nijjar’s murder in British Columbia and have been under police surveillance for months. In September, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suspected the involvement of Indian agents in the June 18 killing of a Khalistan separatist Nijjar outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, after which relations between India and Canada soured. India declared Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020. India rejected Trudeau’s allegations.
