Waheeda Rehman, who ruled the cinema for 7 decades, is still active in the world of acting. In his acting career, he has played great characters in many films like ‘Guide’, ‘Pyasa’, ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Delhi-6’, ‘Kagaz Ke Phool’ and Neil Kamal. He was recently honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award by numerous memorable characters. The 85-year-old actress has never struggled since the beginning of her career.

Waheeda Rahman made her singing debut in the 1955 Telugu film ‘Rojulu Marai’. After seeing that song, Guru Dutt invited him to Mayanagari (Mumbai). After which, in the year 1956, he got an opportunity to work with Devanand in his first Hindi film ‘CID’. In his career he has acted in about 90 films. But he never had to go to anyone to ask for work. Fate has given him every kind of work.
The actress started her career with Telugu films. Guru Dutt saw Waheeda Rahman at a Telugu film premiere and invited her to Mumbai. Where he got an opportunity to act in his first Hindi film CID. The biggest and most important thing for the actress was that she got a chance to work with the then superstar Devanand in the very first film of her career. His film proved to be a hit. And his career also shined from the first film.
Why do you consider yourself lucky?
Talking about her acting journey on Anupam Kher’s show, she said that I consider myself very lucky. If you are getting a golden opportunity to become an actress sitting at home, it is all because of the blessings of Allah. I was a newbie then. I didn’t understand anything. I started working at the age of 11 only. I am grateful to Guru Dutt sir for making such classic films and choosing me to act in them. I want to give full credit to Guru Dutt Ji and proudly say that I am very lucky.
Let us tell you that Waheeda Rahman also worked with Rajesh Khanna in the film ‘Khamoshi’. His work in this film was much appreciated. While Waheeda’s work in this film was much appreciated, Rajesh Khanna won the hearts of people with his work.
