The plane stopped at Vatri airport to refuel.
France grounded a charter flight to Nicaragua on Friday pending a judicial investigation. There were about 300 Indian passengers on the plane. An Airbus A340 of Romanian charter company Legend Airlines took off from the United Arab Emirates. The aircraft stopped for refueling at Vetry airport in France. The plane was intercepted after an anonymous tip regarding human trafficking. Apart from this, the Special Organized Crime Unit also detained two people. However, India was granted consular access to reach the passengers.
Suspected of trying to enter the US or Canada
Authorities suspect the travelers may have planned to travel to Central America to try to enter the US or Canada illegally, AFP reported. The passengers were initially kept on the plane, but were later evacuated and given separate beds in the terminal building.
