The central government has taken an important decision regarding the increasing price of onion. 800 per metric ton / Rs. A minimum export duty of 67 per kg is imposed. The government will also buy two lakh tonnes of additional local onion for buffer stock. The government is trying to increase the availability of onion in the domestic market.

To increase the availability of onions in the domestic market and control prices, the government has fixed a minimum export price (MEP) of $800 per tonne on exports of this staple vegetable till December 31 on Saturday.
“The MEP for onion exported abroad has now been increased to $800 per tonne till December 31, 2023,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
The government has taken this step keeping in mind the rising prices of onions. Onion prices have shot up to Rs 65-80 per kg in the national capital’s retail market due to low supply.
Mother Dairy, which has around 400 successful retail stores in the Delhi-NCR region, is selling retail onions at Rs 67 per kg. While it is priced at Rs 67 per kg on e-commerce portal BigBasket and Rs 70 per kg on OTP. Local vendors are selling onion at Rs 80 per kg.
