“In previous years, the odd-even scheme reduced pollution”: environmental scientist Dr. Anumita Roy Chaudhary.

New Delhi:

The problem of pollution in Delhi is increasing continuously. Air quality is deteriorating with the onset of cold weather. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has implemented an odd-even system in the city to reduce pollution. Speaking to NDTV on this issue, Center for Science and Environment Executive Director and Environmental Scientist Dr. Anumita Roy Chaudhary said that odd-even scheme is being introduced in Delhi as vehicles are the biggest contributor to pollution in Delhi. This is most important if we look at the internal source of pollution in Delhi. Vehicles are part of the problem, so they must also be part of the solution. There are many studies and satellite images on the effect of odd-even scheme on controlling pollution.

Anumita Roy Chowdhury said that the last time the odd-even scheme was implemented, there was a change in pollution levels. We have also seen that wind speed has not increased in the city during the implementation of the odd-even scheme but the pollution has decreased somewhat. Looking at the annual pollution load in Delhi. The share of vehicles is about 40 percent.

“Vehicles contribute 50% to 60% of pollution”

According to data from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, if you look at all sources of pollution in Delhi today, vehicles rank third. But if you look at internal sources of pollution in Delhi, vehicles account for 50% to 60% of pollution. Vehicles are the biggest cause of pollution in Delhi. Emergency action cannot be a magic bullet, the pollution situation in Delhi is very bad. There is no air in the city, pollution is suppressed.
