Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Suresh Raina has said that all-rounder Shardul Thakur can play an important role in whichever team he becomes a part of. Given his ability with the ball and the bat, former India player Suresh Raina believes that many franchises could bet on him during the IPL 2024 auction. The IPL 2024 auction is scheduled to take place in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19).
According to Suresh Raina, Shardul Thakur could prove to be a good deal for Chennai Super Kings. He says he knows management and leadership well, having been part of the MS Dhoni-led team for a few years now. Shardul Thakur was released by Kolkata Knight Riders in November. Delhi Capitals bought Shardul Thakur in IPL 2022 Mega Auction for Rs. 10.75 crores, after which Kolkata included him in the team through a trade in the following season.
Shardul Thakur took 15 wickets in 14 matches playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. But it proved too expensive. Shardul took 7 wickets in 11 matches in IPL 2023 and it cost him dearly here too. The impact player rule implemented in the IPL is also eliminating the all-rounder’s role but Raina believes all eyes will be on Shardul in the auction.

Suresh Raina said during a Jio Cinema show, “He’s like Pat Cummins. Along with bowling, he has also performed well in the batting department. Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t make the most of it. He did well when he played for Chennai. It does very well with new and old balls. Deepak Chahar is injured and same with Pathira. He is an all-rounder like Deepak Chahar.
