In response to the serious allegations leveled against an Indian national by the US Justice Department, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday that the involvement of an Indian official in a plot to kill a man in the US is a “matter of concern”. It also said that New Delhi has launched a high-level probe into the allegations. Arindam Bagchi said on the US allegations that it is also against the government’s policy.

An Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said, “Transnational organized crime, smuggling, gun running and nexus between extremists is a serious issue for law enforcement agencies, and that is why a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted. This inquiry committee will look into this. We Point out what the case is.”
In fact, last week’s news in the ‘Financial Times’, citing unnamed sources, said that American officials had foiled a plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and had sent an FIR to the Indian government over concerns about his involvement in the plot. India has constituted a high-level inquiry committee on November 18 to look into all relevant aspects of the case, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs declined to give further details, saying that no more information can be shared on such security matters. Asked to reiterate Canada’s allegations of the involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of Khalistan militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, Bagchi said, “As far as Canada is concerned, we have said that they consistently give room to the opposition.” Our diplomatic representatives in Canada have suffered from this. We therefore expect the Government of Canada to comply with its obligations under the Vietnam Convention. We have also seen interference by Canadian diplomats in our internal affairs.”
