‘Gadar 2’ is still in theaters after a month. The film has collected 500 crores. Sunny Deol’s film has been as successful as ‘Gadar’ but veteran actress Naseeruddin Shah has criticized the film. He termed the success of not only ‘Gadar 2’ but also ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ as ‘disturbing’. He said that there are good directors like Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha and Hansal Mehta but their films are not seen. Naseeruddin Shah asked those directors not to lose heart and keep telling stories.
The purpose of making the film changed
Naseeruddin Shah is returning as a director after 17 years. He said this while talking to Free Press Journal. When asked if the purpose of making films in Bollywood has changed, he says, ‘Yes, now the more chauvinistic you are, the more popular you are because of who is ruling this country. It is not enough to love one’s country but it has become necessary to play drums and create imaginary enemies. These people do not realize that what they are doing is harmful.
Appreciated some directors
He continues, ‘Actually I haven’t seen films like The Kerala Story and Ghadar 2 but I know what they are. It is worrying that movies like Kashmir Files are so popular. There are films made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha and Hansal Mehta which try to show the truth but it is not visible. It is important that these filmmakers don’t give up and keep making stories.
‘Essential for future generations’
Naseeruddin Shah said, ‘They will be responsible for the coming generations. After a hundred years people will watch Mob and also Ghadar 2. At the same time, they will see which film represents the truth of our times because film is the only medium that can do so.
